Futaba-no-Sakaei, or Sakaei for short, is a traditional Japanese event held in the Inami-cho area of Gifu prefecture. It's held once a year in the first week of August and it's a great way to experience the unique traditions and culture of Japan.
During the event, local people gather in their best traditional clothing and perform a variety of dances, songs and rituals. There is also a ceremony called Kaikaba, (lit. ‘open the sea’) which is a special ritual performed to open the sea during times of need. It's said to bring back lost items and loved ones and make the seas safe for travelers.
The event is a beautiful sight to behold as the locals pour out of the hamlets and temples, wearing the vibrant, colorful clothes of the older generations. The area fills with the sounds of strings and flutes, as the participants perform their graceful movements in sync with the traditional music.
The Kaikaba ritual is an important part of the event, and it is preceded by a purification ceremony which takes place in the morning. Every year, many people from all over the country come to witness this special event, and to reunite with family and friends.
In recent years, Futaba-no-Sakaei has become more popular due to its unique atmosphere and cultural significance. It's not only a great opportunity to experience a unique cultural experience, but also to connect with the people and culture that make up this part of Japan. There's no better way to enjoy the beauty of nature and tradition of the Inami-cho area than to take part in Sakaei and witness the amazing Kaikaba ritual.
