Longteng International Bridge: Connecting Two Countries
The Longteng International Bridge is considered to be one of the most significant bridges in East Asia, connecting two countries–China and Vietnam. Built on the Nanxi River and spanning a distance of 2,113 meters, the bridge consists of seven spans, with the main span reaching a maximum width of 85 meters.
Construction on the Longteng International Bridge began in 2005 and it officially opened to traffic in April of 2010. Representing a joint effort between the two countries, the bridge cost over 1 billion Yuan to build. This investment in infrastructure significantly increased trade links between the two countries, while removing the cost of customs clearance duties. Ultimately, the bridge was a big win for both countries as it enabled safer, faster and cheaper transportation between the two countries.
The bridge was made possible through a number of ingenious engineering techniques. Seashell shaped bridges, deep buried foundation, and engineering techniques like the use of method of lattice girder have all contributed to help in building this bridge. The contributing engineers designed the bridge with an increased safety factor, while taking into account seismic resistance and the environment.
The Longteng International Bridge is symbolic of the collaboration between China and Vietnam, and has greatly improved their diplomatic ties. It is an engineering marvel that stands for the patriotism and friendship between the two countries. This bridge has encouraged regional economic development and improved the quality of life for its people.
